The Escapees' Medal is a French military decoration awarded to French escapees from enemy detention centers since 1870.
For the Franco-Prussian War of 1870:
Soldiers taken prisoner of war during combat who escaped.
For the First World War:
Soldiers taken prisoner of war during combat who escaped.
Alsatians and Lorrainers who, between August 2, 1914, and November 1, 1918, escaped from the German army.
Civilians interned in Germany and inhabitants of occupied territories who crossed enemy lines to surrender to the French military authorities.
For overseas theaters of operation (Levant in 1918 and 1919; Middle East from 1918 to 1920; Morocco in 1918; French Equatorial Africa in 1919; French West Africa from 1918 to 1921; Rif War from 1921 to 1926):
Military personnel taken prisoner of war during combat who escaped.
For World War II (all these actions must have taken place between September 2, 1939, and August 15, 1945):
Individuals able to prove a successful escape from a prisoner-of-war camp or an internment camp for Resistance activities, from enemy or occupied territory, the escape involving the clandestine crossing of a front line or customs line.
Individuals able to provide evidence of two escape attempts resulting in disciplinary action, or a single attempt resulting in transfer to a reprisal camp or deportation camp.
Alsatians and Lorrainers forcibly conscripted into the German army who escaped to fight in the Resistance or the Allied armies.
Alsatians and Lorrainers who escaped from their provinces to fight the enemy.
