The 2nd American Infantry Division of the United States Army, nicknamed Indian Head, because of its insignia is an American infantry division.
This division (US 2d Infantry Division in English) is the only division of the United States Army to have been formed in France (in 1917 in Bourmont in Haute-Marne, during the First World War).
It became famous in 1918 for its fighting in Belleau Wood and Saint-Mihiel.
In 1944, it landed on the beaches of Saint-Laurent-sur-mer. Its route will pass through Normandy, Brest, the Belgian Ardennes, then, in Germany, Göttingen, Leipzig and the liberation of Plze? in Czechoslovakia.
