Description

The 6th American Armored Division commanded by General Robert W. Grow and numbering 15,000 men landed at Utah Beach on July 18, 1944. Spearheading Operation Cobra led by General George J. Patton, it broke through the Normandy front at Avranches on July 31 and was in front of Brest on Monday, August 7, late in the afternoon.

A commemorative plaque, called the "Lormeau Memorial"1, located in Plabennec, commemorates the memory of 75 soldiers of the 6th American Armored Division killed in the Plabennec and Plouvien region on August 8 and 9, 1944. It bears the following inscription: "In memory of the 75 soldiers of the 6th Armored Division who died in combat on August 8 and 9, 1944 to liberate this land - On stone and in our hearts forever. »

From July 18, 1944 to May 8, 1945, 1,275 men of the 6th DB died in combat
