Description

Shoulder insignia, original WWII, of the Patch 9th US Army.

William Hood Simpson was its commander during the Second World War. The 9th Army arrived in France on September 5, 1944, it took part in the Battle of Brest. In November 1944, it was sent to the northern flank of the 12th Army Group. It reached the Roer River (river). On December 16, it took part in the Battle of the Bulge. It took part in the Liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands. In February 1945, it took part in Operation Grenade. On March 10, it reached the Rhine, the Battle of Crossing the Rhine (1945). On April 4, it reached the Weser at Hameln. On April 12, the 13th Corps reached the Elbe between Wittenberge in the north, and Werben in the south.
