Genuine WWII shoulder badge of the 6th Armored Division, cut edge.
The 6th American armored division commanded by General Robert W. Grow and 15,000 men strong landed at Utah Beach on July 18, 1944. Spearhead of Operation Cobra led by General George J. Patton, it broke through the Normandy front at Avranches on July 31 and she was in front of Brest on Monday August 7 at the end of the afternoon. A commemorative plaque, called the “Lormeau Memorial”1, located in Plabennec, evokes the memory of 75 soldiers of the 6th American armored division killed in the region of Plabennec and Plouvien on August 8 and 9, 1944. It bears the following inscription: “In memory of the 75 soldiers of the 6th Armored Division who died in combat on August 8 and 9, 1944 to liberate this land - On stone and in our hearts forever. » From July 18, 1944 to May 8, 1945, 1,275 men of the 6th DB died in combat
