The Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) is a special skills badge of the United States Army.
The EIB was created along with the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) by decree in November 1943, during World War II.
Service members who have received both the EIB and the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) are not authorized to wear both badges simultaneously. In this case, Army regulations allow the recipient to choose the badge they will wear. The EIB is a silver and enamel badge, consisting of a 76mm wide rectangular bar with an infantry blue field on which is superimposed a Springfield Arsenal Model 1795 musket. Although its name and appearance are similar to those of the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), this is a completely different distinction. While the CIB is awarded to infantry soldiers for their participation in ground combat, the EIB is awarded upon completion of a series of tests designed to demonstrate mastery of infantry skills.
